Fiordland
National Park is home to some of New Zealand's most secluded and scenic rivers
and contains the highest waterfalls in the country. The water here is reputably
the freshest in the world and exist as the runoff from the snow high up in
the mountains.
The yearly rainfall in Fiordland is one of the
highest in the world, and flash floods are frequent. These floods creates
many temporary rivers and waterfalls that drain all the excess water into
the fiords. Fiords are valleys that have been inundated by the ocean, so they
contain salt water. The fresh water that empties into the fiords from the
many rivers and waterfalls is lighter than salt water, so it actually floats
on top.
Fiordland also offers great fishing amongst some of the best scenery in the world, and its isolation will guarantee you seclusion.
