Frying Pan LakeRotorua, the main thermal area in New Zealand also has the highest concentration of lakes in the country. Where thermal areas and lakes merge, you can see thermal activity in the form of steaming cliffs and hot bubbling water.

The largest boiling lake in New Zealand and also the world is Frying Pan Lake, located in the Waimangu Valley near Rotorua. Smaller lakes known as pools are also common and Champagne Pool in the Waiotapu Thermal Reserve is renown for it's beautiful colours and attracts visitors from around the world.
